What do I need to know before moving to Playa del Carmen?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Playa del Carmen, they said...
"Expatriates considering moving to Playa del Carmen should be aware that the city is in Mexico's Central Time Zone and observes Daylight Savings Time. It is important to learn at least basic Spanish before arrival, since it is the predominant language spoken in the city. Knowing common phrases and cultural etiquette will be beneficial. It is also advisable to research the cost of living in the area, as well as to familiarize oneself with the city's transportation system. Additionally, expats should be aware that a valid visa is required and that they may need to procure Mexican health insurance," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
"My advice would be to list your priorities of what you are really looking for in order of importance to you. Determine what would be a deal breaker and make the realtor aware of this information. Keep looking and don't stop until you find what you want because it is here in Playa! My 1st trip, I looked for 2 days. A month later when I returned, I found my dream home and signed a year's lease within 24 hours. I am very happy," commented one expat who made the move to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
