"1. It is important to check the visa requirements and make sure you have the necessary documents before making the move to Guangzhou. 2. As an expat, it is beneficial to learn a few phrases and words in the local language of Mandarin, since it is the predominant language spoken in Guangzhou. 3. Register with the local police station within 24 hours of arrival in order to obtain the residence permit. 4. Healthcare in Guangzhou is of a very high standard, however many basic treatments and medicines are not covered by the state health insurance and will need to be paid for out-of-pocket. 5. With a vast amount of diverse cuisine available, there are plenty of options for expats looking for dining out, although it is recommended to research the local restaurants before eating. 6. Although public transport is very good, with the majority of the population speaking Mandarin, it can be difficult to get around without knowing the language," remarked another expat in Guangzhou, China, China.
