As a foreigner living in Puerto Cortes, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Puerto Cortes if they have access to public healthcare in Puerto Cortes. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"Yes, as a foreigner living in Puerto Cortes, you will have access to public healthcare. However, the quality and availability of services can vary. The public healthcare system in Honduras is generally underfunded and understaffed, which can lead to long wait times and limited access to specialized care. Many public hospitals and clinics lack modern equipment and sufficient supplies. In addition, not all medical staff may speak English, which could pose a communication challenge. It's also important to note that in more rural areas, access to healthcare can be even more limited. Therefore, many expats choose to use private healthcare facilities or obtain international health insurance that can cover treatment in private hospitals," remarked another expat who made the move to Puerto Cortes, Honduras.
