As a foreigner living in Tromso, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Tromso if they have access to public healthcare in Tromso. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in Tromso, you will have access to public healthcare, provided you have a valid residence permit and are registered in the National Population Register. The public healthcare system in Norway is known for its high-quality services and well-trained medical professionals. However, you might experience longer waiting times for non-emergency treatments and specialist appointments. It is also important to note that public healthcare in Norway is not entirely free, as you may need to pay a small fee for certain services like consultations, tests, and prescriptions. Nonetheless, the overall cost of healthcare is relatively low compared to other countries, and once you reach an annual limit, you will be eligible for an exemption card that covers most healthcare expenses for the rest of the year," said a member in Tromso, Norway.
