What do people like (and dislike) about Sydney?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Sydney, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads generally like the beautiful beaches, stunning natural landscapes, and pleasant climate in Sydney. They appreciate the city's multiculturalism, which is reflected in its diverse food scene and various cultural events. The high quality of life, excellent healthcare system, and good education options are also attractive to expats. Additionally, Sydney offers a wide range of outdoor activities, such as surfing, hiking, and cycling, which cater to an active lifestyle. On the other hand, expats and digital nomads often dislike the high cost of living in Sydney, particularly when it comes to housing and transportation. The city's traffic congestion can be frustrating, and public transportation may not always be reliable. Some expats may find it challenging to make friends with locals, as Australians can be perceived as somewhat reserved. Finally, the distance from other countries can make it difficult for expats to visit their home countries or travel internationally," explained one expat living in Sydney, Australia.

"After 14 years I have a love/hate relationship with Sydney. With over 5 million people the city is bursting at the seams and is suffering from growing pains. I am thoroughly displeased with both the state federal politicians and hope that some real change will be coming soon. My husband and I have bought land in Tasmania and will be moving there as soon as the kids are done with school. But I adore the Australian ethos. Home life matters just as much as work life. Holidays are almost considered a birthright here. I can send my teens all over the city on public transport by themselves with reasonable belief in their safety. I wish Diet Coke was cheaper and I would kill for decent Tex Mex or pizza, and yes, sometimes the spiders scare the crap out of me....but I will never willingly live outside of Australia again," said another in Sydney, Australia.
