What do people like (and dislike) about Muscat?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Muscat, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads living in Muscat, often appreciate the city's safety and low crime rates, which make it a secure place to live and work. They also enjoy the friendly and welcoming nature of the Omani people, who are known for their hospitality and warmth. The city's rich cultural heritage, beautiful architecture, and stunning natural landscapes, such as the nearby mountains and beaches, are also attractive features for those living in Muscat. The cost of living in Muscat is relatively affordable compared to other major cities in the region, and the availability of modern amenities and facilities, such as shopping malls, international schools, and healthcare services, make it a comfortable place for expats and digital nomads to settle down. Additionally, the city's strategic location provides easy access to other countries in the Middle East and Asia, making it an ideal base for travel enthusiasts. However, there are also some challenges and drawbacks to living in Muscat. The hot and humid climate can be difficult to adjust to, especially during the summer months when temperatures can soar above 40°C (104°F). The city's public transportation system is limited, making it necessary for most people to own a car or rely on taxis for getting around. This can be an inconvenience for those who prefer to use public transport or walk. The conservative culture and strict laws in Oman may also be a challenge for some expats and digital nomads, particularly when it comes to dress codes, alcohol consumption, and social norms. The language barrier can also be an issue, as not everyone speaks English, making it essential to learn some basic Arabic to navigate daily life more easily. Lastly, the job market in Muscat can be competitive, and it may be difficult for expats and digital nomads to find suitable employment opportunities, especially if they do not have specialized skills or experience in high-demand industries such as oil and gas, healthcare, or education," said another in Muscat, Oman.
