What do people like (and dislike) about Bogor?

Answer this Question

When we asked expats and global nomads what they like and dislike about living in Bogor, they replied...

"Expats and digital nomads generally like the following aspects of living in Bogor: 1. Pleasant climate: Bogor is known for its cooler temperatures and frequent rain, which many expats find refreshing compared to the heat and humidity in other parts of Indonesia. 2. Beautiful surroundings: The city is surrounded by lush green mountains and is home to the famous Bogor Botanical Gardens, offering a picturesque setting for nature lovers. 3. Proximity to Jakarta: Bogor is located just 60 km south of Jakarta, making it convenient for those who need to travel to the capital for work or leisure. 4. Lower cost of living: Compared to Jakarta and other major cities in Indonesia, Bogor offers a more affordable lifestyle, with lower housing costs and general expenses. 5. Local culture: Expats appreciate the opportunity to experience authentic Indonesian culture in Bogor, with its traditional markets, street food, and friendly locals. 6. Outdoor activities: The nearby mountains and national parks provide ample opportunities for hiking, cycling, and exploring the great outdoors. However, there are also some aspects that expats and digital nomads may dislike about living in Bogor: 1. Traffic congestion: Like many cities in Indonesia, Bogor suffers from traffic congestion, which can make getting around the city frustrating and time-consuming. 2. Limited public transportation: While there are some public transportation options, they are not as extensive or reliable as those in larger cities like Jakarta. 3. Language barrier: Although English is spoken by some locals, it is not as widely spoken as in other popular expat destinations, which can make communication challenging for those who do not speak Indonesian. 4. Limited nightlife and entertainment options: Bogor is a relatively small city, and its nightlife and entertainment options are limited compared to larger cities like Jakarta or Bali. 5. Infrastructure issues: As with many cities in Indonesia, Bogor faces challenges with infrastructure, such as frequent power outages and unreliable internet connections, which can be frustrating for digital nomads. 6. Pollution: Air quality in Bogor can be poor at times, particularly during the dry season when nearby forest fires can cause haze and smog," said another in Bogor, Indonesia.
