What are the visa & residency requirements in Playa del Carmen?
We asked people about the visa & residency requirements in Playa del Carmen, they wrote...
"To obtain a visa to Mexico, tourists and short-term visitors must apply for a Temporary Residence Visa. Applicants will need to present documents like a valid passport, proof of address, financial resources, and a letter of invitation from a Mexican resident or institution at their nearest Mexican Consulate. Applicants must also pay a fee to cover the processing and issuing of the visa. For applying for residency in Mexico, the Mexican government requires applicants to have a valid passport and to have entered the country with a valid entry permit from the corresponding Consulate. Applicants must also be able submit proof of economic resources, and proof of health insurance. To obtain a permanent residence visa, applicants must submit documents like a receipt for the payment of taxes and fees, police records, and proof of no criminal record. Along with the documents, applicants must also pass an interview and medical evaluation," remarked another expat who made the move to Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
"This is still a bit of a nightmare. You must apply for your residence from your home country and then there will be a few appointment with immigration. It took us 5 months to get our temp residency and we have to be in Mexico 30 days prior to our 1 year expiration date to renew. Keep you posted on that. At one point we were temp residents but gave it up as we were never in the country longer than 6 months at a time. We travel a lot. But the Mexican govt really wants you to have your residency," explained one expat living in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
