What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Slovenia?
We asked people in Slovenia if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...
"It is important to be aware of cultural differences when visiting Slovenia. It is considered rude to be late for appointments or social engagements, so it is important to be punctual. It is also important to dress conservatively, especially when visiting religious sites. It is also important to be respectful of local customs and traditions, and to avoid making negative comments about the country or its people. Additionally, it is important to be aware of the local language and to avoid speaking loudly in public. Finally, it is important to be aware of the local cuisine and to avoid eating with your hands," remarked another expat in Slovenia.
"Frequently, I can't hear what someone is trying to tell me in Slovenian/English. 'There is a disabled beagle on the A1 between Koper and Ljubljana.'," said a member in Bled, Slovenia.
