What do I need to know before moving to UAE?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to UAE, they said...
"When moving to the UAE, it is important to be mindful of the culture and laws of the country. Knowing some Arabic phrases can be beneficial and appreciated while conversing with locals. Research the official religion of each Emirate, as they vary. One should also be aware of the legal system, and understand business and employment laws of the UAE before making the move. Additionally, be mindful of new tax laws and understand who is eligible for taxation. One should also ensure to have all necessary documents needed to gain entry into the UAE, such as a valid passport, visa, health insurance, and work permit (if applicable). Lastly, it is essential to get pre-arrival health clearance, register in the mandatory medical insurance program, and update family, friends, and colleagues of the move," said another expat in UAE.
"Make sure you negotiate with your employer to cover your accommodation or include high accommodation allowance. Living in a compound in a villa is the best choice - one can find many European expatriates to be among with," wrote a member who made the move to Abu Dhabi, UAE.
