What do I need to know before moving to Kuwait?
When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Kuwait, they said...
"Before moving to Kuwait it is important to be aware that Kuwait is an Islamic country and that its culture and laws reflect its religious beliefs and traditions. Kuwait is a dry country, with alcohol and pork products prohibited in the country. It is also important to note that Kuwait has a conservative social scene and public displays of affection are frowned upon. Although English is widely spoken, it is recommended to learn some basic Arabic phrases to help with day-to-day communication. Visas are also required for most visitors and it is important to ensure that all paperwork is correctly filled out before arriving in Kuwait. Kuwait has a hot climate and the summer months can be extremely hot, so a certain level of physical fitness is required, particularly when engaging in outdoor activities. Kuwait is a modern country, with great shopping and dining opportunities on offer, as well as a number of tourist attractions. Being prepared and aware of the culture and customs of the country before travelling will ensure a smooth transition to Kuwait and a great experience," explained one expat living in Kuwait.
