What have your experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system been like?
When we asked expats and global nomads in Belize about their experiences during the pandemic with the local healthcare system, they replied...
"The healthcare system in Belize has had its struggles during the pandemic to keep up with the influx of COVID-19 cases. There is a lack of access to tests, as well as shortages in medical equipment like PPE and other supplies. Additionally, backlogs at hospitals due to overcrowding have caused delays in treatment and access to care. Patients who are able to receive care are often faced with long wait times and limited information on the status of their cases. There is also a lack of liability protection for healthcare workers who are exposed to the virus while in the hospital. Overall, the challenges presented by the pandemic have greatly compounded existing issues with the healthcare system in Belize," explained one expat living in Belize.
"two visits to an optometrist, both went well. One trip to a clinic for a reaction to bug bites. It went well too," said another in Carmelita Gardens, Belize.
