International Trainer

Role Purpose:

To plan and deliver quality English language teaching and methodology training for primary-level teachers working in Bangladeshi government primary schools in order to develop their English teaching skills and knowledge and their English proficiency as part of the Training of Master Trainers in English (TMTE) project.

This involves developing a cadre of 2,020 Master Trainers who will have a defined role within the education system, supporting other primary teachers across the country to improve their English language and teaching skills.

Challenges & Accountabilities:

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME) and Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) in Bangladesh have undertaken a major new sector-wide reform programme called the Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP4). One of the quality initiatives under PEDP4 aims to upgrade the English language proficiency and teaching skills of 130,000 teachers of English at primary level throughout Bangladesh. To support this ambition, the British Council has been requested by MoPME to create a pool of Master Trainers from their existing staff through a cycle of training. The focus will be on creating a cadre of Master Trainers who will be proficient and skilled in English, have a clear understanding of effective teaching practice at primary level, and the skills and knowledge necessary to support the development of English teachers in primary schools.

The training will be implemented with the deployment of expatriate Teacher Trainers in 15 selected PTI’s located across the country with 2 expatriate Teacher Trainers based in each PTI. Delivery of the training will be six hours a day and six days a week - equal to 36 input hours per week. The expatriate Teacher Trainers will each follow a five-day week (approximately 6 contact hours/day), on overlapping schedules (Sun-Thu/Sat-Wed) to cover the six days each week. Therefore, approximately 14 weeks will be required in order to reach the target of 500 hours of training for each training participant.

The main duties for this role include but not limited to:

Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English, classroom practice and teacher educator training Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage/assess participants progress and performance throughout the training programme including classroom observations Contribute and adhere to established training plan, syllabus and calendar Maintain daily activity diary with weekly and monthly reporting to Academic Supervisors Support monitoring and evaluation data collection together with implementing recommendations from feedback Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policies for the following areas: Child protection, Equality, diversity and inclusion Health and safety

Requirements:

Undergraduate university degree (i.e. BA in any discipline) plus a recognised teaching certificate (either Cambridge CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL). Post-graduate qualifications and certifications preferred. At least 5 years post-qualification (Cambridge CELTA or Trinity TESOL) experience (preferably within the last 10 years) At least 250 hours of teacher training experience (applications from exceptionally qualified teachers with fewer training hours may be considered) Teaching skills related to classroom management, course and lesson planning, subject knowledge, understanding your learners and learning technologies The post holder will be working with primary-level teachers and therefore knowledge about how children learn is essential High proficiency in English (i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills - equivalent to user CEFR C2 or IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module) Benefits: Attractive salary and benefits will be offered to the deserving candidate An inclusive and engaging work environment encouraging cross-team collaboration and building connections with colleagues from different disciplines around the world A learning environment with plenty of opportunities to develop skills and knowledge Experience of working in an international organisation which includes good work life balance and flexible working hours

Additional Information:

Passport requirements/ Right to work in country:

Candidates must have a passport with validity for a minimum of 18 months from the start date in role. All necessary background checks as per the British Council Pre-Appointment Screening policy along with medical check-up will need to be completed successfully prior to signing the final employment contract.

Income Tax:

Currently, expatriate staff on official A2 visas are not subject to any income tax. Should that change at any point, staff may become liable for Bangladesh income tax. Should that be the case, income tax will then be deducted at source, according to the provisions of the Bangladesh income tax regulations. While employed on an A2 visa and not liable for Bangladesh income tax, you will be responsible for submitting your income tax return in your home country.

Fares and Travel:

For overseas recruitment, we will provide a single economy class airfare from home country or current location to Dhaka, Bangladesh on the British Council’s preferred airline. On completion of your posting, we will provide you with a single economy class airfare to your home country or next posting location from Dhaka, whichever is the lower value.

Accommodation and allowances:

No accommodation allowance is provided. On arrival in Dhaka, you will be accommodated in a hotel for the initial induction and settling-in period. Afterwards, fully furnished single occupancy accommodation will be provided in the PTI’s.

You will be provided with a certain baggage and settling-in allowance You will be covered by the British Council’s Group Medical Insurance as soon as possible after commencement of your contract. There is no entitlement to or allowance for annual paid leave. The PTI’s will be closed on all Bangladeshi public holidays - approximately 18 days per calendar year.
