Mortgage in Ecuador

Hi everyone.

My wife and I are thinking of moving to Ecuador. She's originally from Ecuador, but we both currently live in US. I am currently employed, but my wife isn't.

On a recent trip to this wonderful country, we looked into housing and tracked the construction boom for a bit.

We are pretty clear on the basics of buying a house with 30% or 50% down, but we are not sure on getting a mortgage.

Since my wife does not work, she's can't qualify for mortgage in Ecuador. Does anyone have any resources for expats to get a mortgage? Or a US bank that will issue mortgages for a property in another country?
