My husband and I are currently researching options to move to Ecuador. We have 4 children and have found little about young families who live in Ecuador. We currently live in Southern California and while we know moving to Ecuador will be a huge transition, we are all open to it. We need a lower cost of living and we want our children to really open their eyes to how another culture lives. With the reliance on video games and TV, we feel it's important they learn the lesson of a broader world view.
So my question is, basically what can anyone tell us about a young family's projected cost of living in Ecuador? What are the requirements for a Visa if my husband works online for an American-based company? We're looking at Quito, Manta and Cuenca for possible cities to live in. What are the best ways to find a rental without being gringo-gouged? I speak intermediate Spanish and plan on continuing that while waiting to move as well as introducing my children to it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
