How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The Al-Bayan Elementary Campus is a warm and comfortable place for staff and students to work and learn. Having worked at other schools in North America and Kuwait, I can honestly say that the BBS Elementary Campus is a safe and pleasant learning facility. The school is situated in Jabriya, a quiet suburb of Kuwait. The school facilities include 2 computer labs, Arabic & English libraries, a full-size gymnasium, a grass field & large courtyard area, a Theatre, 2 music rooms, and spacious & well-equipped classrooms. Ample resources are provided to assist teaching staff with the delivery of the curriculum.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Having taught in North America for 5 years, and overseas for the past two, I can say that the program & Curriculum at Bayan parallels the US model of instruction. Having said this, Al-Bayan has one significant difference to American schools. It has a co-teaching model of instruction. This model of instruction offers each classroom of students 2 certified Teaching professionals for all English and Arabic subjects. Educators work in teams to plan, deliver, assess, & evaluate curriculum, and students benefit from twice as much student-teacher interaction!

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Al-Bayan does have a PTA committee that meets regularly to offer feedback to school faculty and administration. The parent community is also active in many charity and fund-raising events. The parents in our community are well educated, supportive, and interested in their childrens learning and development. Since arriving at Bayan (Sept 03), my wife and I have attended dinners, cultural evenings, and various other social gatherings hosted by parents in our community. We have found these events to be interesting and enjoyable, as they provide us with new understandings of Arabic lifestyle and culture.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

BBS is a bilingual school. This means that students receive instruction in Arabic and English. In my opinion, the student academic levels at BBS are comparable to the "elite" private schools in Kuwait. I base this opinion from my teaching experiences and conferences with other teaching professionals. The co-teacher model of instruction, combined with caring and knowledgeable teaching professionals and exemplary resources, contribute to a high standard of education that rivals the competition.
