Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Coronado, Panama

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Coronado

What are the most challenging aspects of the new culture?

Expatriates often find adapting to new cultures and customs the most challenging part of living abroad. This can include learning a new language, understanding cultural norms and etiquette, and dealing with cultural barriers. In addition, finding employment in a foreign country can be difficult due to lack of knowledge or contacts and visa and residency requirements. Other challenges may include navigating a different healthcare system, accessing services such as banking and dealing with bureaucracy, making new friends and finding a home, and dealing with the anxiety of being so far away from family and friends.
