We hope to rent an apartment in Vienna for only 10 months while my husband has teaching scholarship during the academic year. How hard is it to secure a rental while we are in the US (we cannot visit prior to arriving). Do you need to go through an agent or is it simple enough to get a lease on our own? Thank you!

I recommend that you try to book a furnished flat but not to look for a standard flat (for which the minimum rental contract would be 15 months)

Greetings Carol11, I'm originally from Oregon so welcome to Austria, What district will your husband be teaching at and what time frame are you looking at for renting? We recently bought a house outside of Vienna but still have/own our apartment (30sqm) in the 16th district, its on Lienfeldergasse/Thaliastrasse off the main streets so its quiet and it has a full kitchen with appliances (stove, frig, and dishwasher) and bathroom. If it peeks your interest let me know, I haven't posted an add anywhere yet, so let us know, no pressure or rush. We can even help with the district registration if needed and if you need a Dr there is one who speaks really good English (my house Dr) he is a 3 minute walk from the apartment, not to mention grocery stores all with in 3 minute walk and for transportation there is the tramU2 and U2rail Ottakring bahnhof all with in 3 min walk. Cheers, Ed
