Royal Gazette website comment deleted

I just want to check if people notice the newspaper website delete comments on their news. I mean genuine and not in anyways abusive comments.

I was commenting my impression of Bermuda traffic environment being dangerous that local drivers and riders lack the safety mindset. And they just remove comments. This applies to a lot of people commenting, not just me.

It feels like there are so much censorship in Royal Gazette in general.

Due to the party politics in Bermuda having a strongly racialized and religious element, the internet comments are particularly vicious (and completely out of proportion with Bermuda's relatively minor political problems).

I am sure that all Bermuda media must have a "delete now, ask questions later" policy for their comments sections, to keep the number of lawsuits to a minimum. I am sure that your comment was innocuous, but someone probably clicked on the "This is Offencive" button.

If you want to see an island of seemingly friendly, carefree people tear each other down with bile and hate, check out "All Things Bermuda" on Facebook. (I don't, because it ruins the happy memories I have of the place).

And by the way, I agree with you -- the traffic is needlessly dangerous. Drunk driving is not taken seriously as a problem. I lived there for 6 years and never saw a police checkpoint looking for drunks (although I saw them looking for other things).

Also, the entire island shrugs its shoulders at aggressive moped driving. I know "aggressive moped driving" sounds ridiculous -- until you see it in action in Bermuda. I just took it as a given that if I saw a moped in my car's rearview mirror, it would try to overtake me, no matter what speed I was going, no matter the narrowness or condition of the road.
