Living in Chile

I am planning to visit Chile and Argentina this coming autumn and would like information about living in Chile. I understand I can stay for 90 days, but what happens after that? I am interested in learning about expat hangouts, inexpensive apartments, restaurants, etc. I don't speak Spanish. How big a problem is that going to be?
