Wanna Be Expat

Hi all,

I've been doing a lot of research to possible locations to relocate outside of the USA to. Chile is top on my list. I have a few questions I hope some expats on the forum could graciously spare some time answering.

1) I telecommute for an American company. I haven't really been able to track down exactly what the rules are in Chile tax wise other than some kind of rumor that there is a 3 year tax break of some kind for foreigners having an income outside of Chile. Is this even close to correct?

2) I'm paying off some bills so my income is lower than I'd like it to be, but after taxes here in the states I'm probably making about $2600 a month. Is that enough to live a decent (middle class) life in Chile, or should I wait until I have more income? My wife would have to look for a job in Chile, she has Paramedic skills but does not speak Spanish, plus getting a work VISA, so I figure we would have to survive on my income alone for at least a year.

Thank you kindly for your input and your time.
