Can I buy a vehicle without an RUT?

I made it safe to Valdivia and have my new rental cabaña. My friend has been a complete gift, but he has limited time. Is it possible for me to buy a used vehicle before I have an RUT, so I can go shopping and work the residency process on my own? Because I think with a vehicle the whole process will go much easier and faster. I just want to make sure I can do that.
