We are starting a thread for expats in Chile to share information and concerns about Coronavirus. If you would like to post an update and let others know what is happening in your area, we encourage you to do so. What type of precautions are being taken at airports? medical facilities? schools? If you are being told by authorities to make any preparations, what are they telling you.

As of the 18th March there are 228 cases in Chile. However the glitch here is that people were being charged $49,000. clp for the test which is 2-3 days salary for most workers so therefore they weren't doing it. Don't know if that has been changed or not. Can't find it. Obviously it should be free to protect everyone.

Valdivia seems to be obeying all restrictions and shops still have food. I visited a hospital last Monday and it was busy but orderly. We visited immigration on Wednesday to extend our visa - just in case - and it was by appointment only but very orderly, sympathetic and professional. People are elbow bumping rather than the traditional kiss when greeting, and on the whole it feels safe. Masks are being worn by about 1/4 of the population but since Thursday most people are in doors.

CollegePath Will you share what kind of visa you had? From your name, I'm assuming a Student visa? Thank you!
