I understand the needs of a home on one of the islands is much different than on the mainland and several of the different questions that have been asked that pertain to materials to be used to construct are usually directed towards homes on the islands. I am interested in building in Benque or just outside of Santa Familia. Don't believe hurricanes make it that far into the mainland but tropical storms and rains do.
With that being said what is the best material to use for building a home on the mainland and how do you keep the home cool while minimizing the use of A/C? I know block can absorb the heat from the sun and transmit it throughout the evening so what is a better option? Siding whether metal or aluminum or the new Plycem siding? I believe each acts as an insulator or barrier to the heating up of the block or concrete and indoor insulation and framing can also help reduce heat penetration, to a degree.
What are the rest of you doing and how are you building?
Thanks.
