I have opened an account at Alianza and am now setting up the process for transferring funds from my Fidelity Investment account. The Alianza representative has given me instructions to transfer the funds to an Alianza account at Citibank in New York City. My Wire Transfer Department Fidelity representative asked why we can't bypass Citibank and just send the funds via SWIFT Code directly to Alianza. The Fidelity representative has indicated they have the capability. My Alianza representative is just saying, "That's the way to do it".
Does anyone have any insight? Could it have something to do with the conversion of USD to COP? Do all direct transfers from a US financial institution to any Colombian financial institution need to be processed through an intermediary? I know my Remitly transfers go to Banco W before being deposited into my Caja Social account. Would an intermediary be involved if I ask Fidelity to wire transfer directly to my Caja Social account?
