Very sad day and quite remarkable that this was allowed to happen to Spirit and throwing 17,000 out of work. It was the go-to airlines from
FLL to Colombia for decades. Spirit in my opinion got an undeserved bad rap. But from my experience these past 16 years, if your goal was to fly from Point A to Point B at the most economical price and ON TIME with no frills, then this was the best option. So now we’re left with just JetBlue who only recently resumed flights from FLL to Cartagena. Otherwise have to trek down to Miami and Fly Avianca or AA like in the early 200o’s days at at a highly inflated price. . This is totally on Linda Khan from the Biden administration who stopped the then merger between Spirit and Jet Blue. Spirit was the busiest airline at a very busy FLL airport and will be a big loss.
