Non-resident Canadian

7d ago
My Colombian wife and I are planning a move to Colombia. Once I hit my 183 days and become a tax resident of Colombia I understand I will be considered non-resident in Canada (no significant ties left in Canada). I believe it's best to liquidate my Canadian mutual funds because of the tax drag and filing hassle, and then invest in ETF's or companies that do not pay personal dividends through a broker like Questrade. I believe I also file a final Canadian non-resident tax return (after my 183 days in Colombia?) and that should be it for Canadian tax filing. My private pension will be taxed at the rate dictated by the tax treaty (16%) once I become non-resident and submit the NR301. Am I understanding this correctly? I appreciate any insights.
