Hi we are looking to move to Cyprus in the very near future, BUT I seem to have hit a brick wall at the moment, I run a very successful soccer school in the UK, but I am looking to start up a soccer Academy / School in Cyprus, but I dont really know where to start (in terms of getting the ball rolling), there seems so much to do, and its extra hard as we are still living over here in the UK, can anybody tell us if it can be set up from here (UK), and if so do you know of a direct contact or web site that we can use to help, many thanks in advance Terry

I can give you the name and contact details of both my accountant and my company formation providers between them they may be able to advise you on any regulatory requirements in setting up the academy and can certainly help with the company formation. You would need to find premises for this venture and need to know where would be the best place to situate it. Limassol and Nicosia probably have the largest numbers of kids that would be interested as they have the greater number of schools particularly international ones as I assume all training will be in English. You really would need to come over to have a look around and once you have found the right location and site then you would have to pursue the rest of it. Drop me an email if you want details of accountant etc. [email protected] Good Luck Vivian

Hi Terry There used to be a guy in Limassol who ran something similar up until a couple of years ago. He died unfortunately.... But he did run it as a private soccer school, taking reservations and arranging the curriculum.
Have you thought about approaching Tui (incorporating Thomson & First Choice) and Olympic Holidays to see if you could work in unison?
I know First Choice used to run a swimming school called Swim Kids a few years ago.
It may be a way to bring bookings your way to begin with and then you could concentrate on where to start up. There are lots of small football pitches dotted around each town as the lads all tend to play football here when the evenings cool down. So all the pitches are floodlit.
It maybe worth getting in touch with the town hall in Limassol and the other tourist towns to decide where best to set up. They may be able to put you in touch with the local pitches.
But - you may also very well put the idea into someone else's head and they will start the ball rolling before you can get here!
It may be better to contact the Tour Ops and if they seem to like the idea - it's probably worth getting over to set it up personally in Cyprus rather than from UK.
Good luck! CwB

hi - there are some good ones (minority) and bad ones (majority). I have a 7 year old son who has been through 4 of these before finding the right one. this one is run by a british guy with mainly ex pat kids, although some cypriots. the problem really is that the cyprus FA are a little in the dark ages on this sort of stuff, and tend to favour local (cypriot) coaches. However, things are getting better ... if you want to get in touch and perhaps join up with this one (they are looking for experienced coaches) maybe that would be better than starting from scratch. let me know if this is of interest and i'll put you in touch

Hi Terry.
The club name is Hillside Lions, and they are based in Larnaca. It obviously depends on whereabouts in Cyprus you are relocating to (Paphos, for example is too far a journey for you)
They have a website, www.hillsidelions.com and there is a contact on there called Stephen (good guy and done a stirring job getting this up and running)
Give Stephan a call ... let me know how you get on!
