Car Importation

I will be moving to Cyprus lock stock and barrel this summer, driving to Dover, then from Calais to Salerno in Italy for the car ferry to Limassol. Do I have to prepare any paperwork beforehand or is this all done on arrival ? Any further tips would be most welcome. Thanks Phil De-Asha
