Hi I am currently relocating from Bermuda to Roskilde to live with my boyfriend, I have just started to look for various job opportunities within Copenhagen, does anyone know of any good employment agencies or as an ex-pat the best route to take, currently I do not speak Danish and will be attending a school. Are there many hurdles facing ex-pats when seeking employment in Copenhagen and does anyone know of the average salary. Thanks Marie

Hi,
First, to work in Denmark you need at Work permit, when you are not an EU-citizen. The best way to get a working permit is probably to find a job in an International company which then might be able to help you with further registration in the Danish Society (where you also need a CPR-nr. Among others you need a CPR-nr. to get a health insurance, opening a bank account (which you will need when you get a job) etc).

The best way to find a job in your case I guess is to surf the Internet and find some big Danish/International companies where your professional profile might be relevant and send them open applications. I don't know what your educational and professional background is, but you could try some companies in the Biotech industry, shipping, Medical, IT, Airlines etc. You could also contact some of the job recruiting companies (You find them in the Yellow Pages under "vikarbureauer" and "Personaleudvælgelse"). It is good that you are taking Danish classes. That will also make it easier for you to find a job though still more companies use English/American as common company language. In the first place companies which use Englih as their company language might be a good place for you to start your job hunt.

Regarding average salary - this question is hard to answer, because it depends on your educational and professional background and your further qualifications. But a beginners salary (for someone who just finsihed his/her education) somewhere between DKK 18.000 and DKK 25.000 (Before tax) isn't unrealistic. But then again, it depends on your qualifications and background.

Finally - yes, unfortunately I am afraid there are some hurdles for you to face as an ex-pat in Denmark, but nothing is impossible and I wish you all the best of luck.

Hi,

I forgot to mention that the probable average salary mentioned in my answer is per month, but maybe you guessed that already..
