Going To AUC for school

Salaam & Eid Mubarak!!

I'm considering going to the American University in Cairo for my undergraduate degree, I love Egypt and I want to live and work there. I currently attend a top prep school (private school) in the U.S. so I'm used to academic rigor and this is not something I am worried about. However I was just wondering if anyone could fill me in about the social dynamics of life in AUC??? I know that the environment is pretty liberal and secular, and that many students are from the upper class families of Cairo. I have even heard that there is a place on the campus called the "Gucci corner". I'm from an upper socio-economic background as well however I am really looking to get away from western elitism and consumer culture for a while, I like AUC as a school but It might feel like less of a cultural change for me if everyone there is like all the privileged kids i know here. I was told that in AUC girls who wear the hijab are considered low class and scholarship students, is that true?
