Offered a job in Cologne

Hi everyone. I am currently living in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. and have been offered a job in Cologne, Germany. I'm a 29 year-old single male who usually likes to live in up-and-coming , yet safe neighborhoods. Not too slummy and not too yuppy. A place with a few good pubs and coffee shops and a decent night life. I am wondering if anyone could give a rough figure for the average price of a studio or 1 bed apartment in an area like this in Cologne. Maybe refer me to a good apartment listing website? Also, what % of a paycheck is usually taken for taxes? I'm trying to get a good feel of whether the amount offered to me will let me live a decently comfortable life. Thanks!!!
