Retiring at a young age

My husband and I decided to move to Germany in 6 years once our 13 year old graduates high school. We were told that if we were retiring (at that time we would be 44 and 45 years old) we would need to prove to the government that we could take care of ourselves. How much money do we need and what else would the government need from us to allow us to move there?
