Moving to Germany

Hi,

I'm looking to moving to Germany (Munich) around June. I'm an Australian currently living in London on a 2yr working holiday visa.

I would like to work as an IT professional in Germany but I see the working visa is limited to 90 days per job. I'm guessing I need to apply for a residency visa but do not have a job lined up. I wish to seek employment once I get there and have plenty in the bank to support myself until then.

My German is basic at the moment but currently studying and will be taking classes. What kind of visa should I apply for and when should I apply for it?
