Police Certificate of Good Conduct

Hello,

I am going to Berlin, Germany for the 90 days allowed on a tourist visa this coming December. I would like to freelance as an English tutor. However, I am wondering if I am already disqualified from getting any such work in Germany because of my criminal record. I have a "dismissed" retail fraud of the 3rd degree misdemeanor on my criminal record which cannot be expunged until 2015. Kind of embarrassing, yes. Anyway, I have a BA degree in German for Secondary Education and a TESOL certification and am hoping despite my record, I will still have a shot at at least freelancing. Does anyone know anything about this? Does a person's "Police Cert. of Good Conduct" have to show up completely clean of any criminal records?

Thank you very much!
