Is Seoul safe?

I may be taking a short term 6-12 month assignment in Seoul next year and wondered how safe Seoul is? I live in NYC - so, I'm used to big cities...but I have a large network of friends and 2 roomates here. Since I don't know anyone there I am a bit concerned about my safety as I will be traveling a lot for work on my own and living alone.

Is it safe for a 25 year old to live there alone?
