Giving up U.S. passport

I have been told by my future employer that I will have to give up my U.S. passport upom entry into Kuwait. Why? What do I relinquish all of my rights as an America Citizen? What if I want to leave the courtry can my emplyer refuse to allow me to leave?

Has this been the experience with anyone else? Can I get my passport back if I give it up? Is this a law in Kuwait?

Any info would be appreciated
