Hello. I’m Ellen. My husband Stuart is a dual US UK citizen holding valid passports for both countries. He was born and raised in the southwest of Scotland. I’m a US citizen and will be utilizing the family/spouse visa option when time to move. I’m early retired at 57 and my husband will be looking to retire/semi retire in a few years at 58. After 32 years living and raising a family in the US, we’re ready to slow down, be nearer his side of our family and explore and enjoy his beautiful home country. Also intending to travel Europe and other places and look forward to the plethora of much more affordable transportation options via cheap flights (as compared to Europe from the US) and TRAINS! (Which we adore). Our research is focused on transport links (as we may have one but don’t intend to use a car in everyday life ) accessibility of medical care (trying to avoid the NHS desert areas of the country) and out the front door access to walks (town and country) and amenities. The narrow list of towns we are considering are Stirling, Linlithgow, Dunfermline (which actually recently attained city status) and less so purely due to housing costs, towns in East Lothian as long as there’s a walkable train station. Flexible on housing type. Open to flats, terraces and semi detached.. even detached if in price point. We are a few years away from my husband packing it in at work here, but an international move requires a lot of research and prep even when it’s a place you’ve lived and are very familiar with.
