Reservations....

We will be going to El Valle for the month of December. I have located an apartment in the center of town which seems to have everything we were looking for at a fair price. My question is, the owner says I have the reservation for the month of December BUT she is NOT requiring me to pay for it till we check in. Is this the way things are done? I would fell more confident of the place being held for me if it were prepaid. Do I have cause to worry....?
