Living in mountains

My wife and I will be coming to Panama in Jan/Febr 2014 to have a look around and see which places may be suitable for us to live in 2015 when I retire.
Are there any places near the sea or beaches, but in the mountains where the temperature is more moderate (as well as bugs)??That is my main concern for this moment. Also thinking that it should be on the Pacific side.
