Visiting Panama City on Caravan Tours

I am planning on taking a tour of Panama on Caravan Tours around the end of February. When their 8 day trip ends I would like to spend another week in Panama City or surrounding area for another week. Where would you suggest I find lodging so I can mix with expats and locals, budget minded.. I am a single male 74 years old so not to much partying lol. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
