Shipping Large Breed Dog

I'm relocating to Boquete next month & was planning to ship my 84 lb Labrador Retriever on my flight from Miami to Panama City via America Airlines. He's considered X-Large. I live in Charlotte, NC but wanted to eliminate a connecting flight itinerary. I learned today that the largest dogs they transport are 'Large' size breeds. I also contacted American cargo and was told the same thing. AA flies 737-800's & A319's. They told me that a wide body aircraft, like a 757 would be required.

I've shipped Labs cross country several times but things have changed since 2000.

Anyone have experiences/advice?
