One-way Incoming Air Ticket

I am moving to Panama in June and have a 1-way ticket out of US to PTY. I know I might get stopped at immigration without a return air ticket. What if I bought an online bus ticket to shows I'm leaving the country from David to San Jose in 170 days after arrival. Will that work?
If not any suggestions for a cheaper option?
