location for growing

i have a lot of research to do, but i thought i would start here. we would like enough land to grow vegetables and tropical fruit for ourselves and possibly for selling. what areas/towns should we be looking in? we are not city people, preferring the company of family and friends in a casual atmosphere. however, it would be nice to be within a 30 minute drive of things like doctors, restaurants, grocery shopping. we have a farm in northern virginia where we try to live simply and sustainably with our animals and gardens. lastly, is it easy to buy goats, chickens, ducks and horses in panama? ty for whatever advice you can offer:)
