sending/receiving dollars /UPDATE

I started sending US dollars thru Worldremit but it seems that they have raised the rates and are now more costly than WU or MG. MG charges $8 up to 1000 and $16 for over $1000 up t0 $2500.

I did send a check to a friend last year
(via courier along with some clothes and other items ) and it took about 8 days to clear her bank which was not bad..

And this begs the question: What is the most economical way way to send from Panama to the US? Can my friend purchase a cashiers check and mail it on to me from Panama?
