Airport Car Rentals

I've been looking over our itinerary for our first trip to Panama the first week of July. We have a midsize reserved at Avis through Expedia. I went ahead and started reading the reviews with pretty consistent complaints. then I started reading the reviews for the rest of the car rental agencies. I gotta say I ain't feeling too warm and fuzzy on car rentals from the airport. So my question is this: Has anyone have a good experience renting a car at the airport?
