Visiting Soon Feb '23

Is there an english speaking expat in Casco Viejo, where we'll be hanging our hat, that would like to get together for lunch or dinner and share their experience living in Panama City and/or other areas of Panama? We will be there during the week of January 30.

We'd like to see some of the sites in Panama City, but really want to get an idea what it's like to live in the city, the expat suburbs, and cost. Can someone give us the names of 3-4 places where expats live in/around Panama City so we can visit.

We'd also like to experience the beach communities west of Panama City, in the Coronado area. What is the best day of the week to visit and which communities should be on our shortlist?

We'd like to venture up into the mountains to see what the climiate is like. I've researched the areas around David and Boquete. However, I don't think we'll have time to visit there on this trip, since it is such a long drive/ride. What areas north of Panama City and Coronado (and areas in between) would offer us a good idea of the climate and geography in these higher elevations?

Lastly, I've driven all over the world and in the biggest cities in the United States... so I'm not faint of heart. However, I refuse to drive in Jamaica! To facilitate our travels (especially outside the city) should I rent a car or figure out how to use the subway and buses that are available. My wife and I like to be spontaneous, so for the out of the City adventures I'd like to think a rental car would work as it would allow us to wander a bit. I would like to hear a few opinions on a nube to Panama renting a car and roaming the areas west and north of Panama City? Good idea? Bad idea?

Thanks,

Steve
