giving up!

as much as I regret, I have decided that Panama is a no-go for me, 76, and my family (wife, 61, and sister, 63) due to a couple of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. (1) From my research, my having a federal conviction from 1988 on my record bars me from a pensionada residency, unless I can hire a high powered immigration attorney to meet with the director of immigration and present and explain my case as much less serious as it appears on record with no guarantee of success but I believe a likelihood. the cost of trying would be significant! My wife and sister would have no problem. (2) medical insurance for people over 70 is difficult to get, more expensive, and usually doesn't cover pre-existing conditions for 2 or 2 1/2 years, which we all 3 have. sister has rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and aggressive breast cancer 10 years ago, wife had minor breast cancer 5 years ago (double mastectomy, little chance of recurrence), I was diagnosed and had surgery for an aggressive prostate cancer in May of this year. could easily reappear. so the pre-existing condition thing is pretty much a deal breaker, especially when added to the residency problem. I am deeply disappointed to give up on my highly desirable dream, but I think it's time to throw in the towel. I appreciate any thoughts on these circumstances, but my optimism is low. thanks and best wishes to you all!!!
