First Visit

My husband and I have plans to visit Panama in a couple of weeks. We want to get a feel for the country before we seriously consider relocating. With the recent actions and talk from the current US administration on the Canal, are Panamanians supportive of US tourists?
We plan on visiting Panama City, Hato Rio and Anton Valley. We'll be renting a car when outside of Panama City. Do you have any advice for sites to see in these areas and for driving along the Pan American Highway and other roads? Thank you
