American Software Engineer Looking To Move To Peru

New Topic Newest First

Hi All,
I am an experienced American software engineer currently working for General Motors. I have gotten tired of American politics and would try living in Peru. I will be traveling there in December to check it out. How would I go about finding work there, and is it possible to secure a job before I move?
Thanks,
Tracy

I say check with your employer.

GM has plants and a lot of car-buyers in South America.

How's your Spanish?

Take a long vacation there and do visit the Department of Migraciones in Avenida Espana. Get the necessary paperwork from there to apply for a professional work visa. Also, it is wise that you get a letter of recommendation from your present employer enabling you with an opportunity to apply for a position with that company in Peru or and option to use your work skills. Also, when you go there, obtain a short term lease as a permanent address so you can process your visa much more rapidly showing an intent to reside there permanently with with a residence address in tact. The procedure to get a work visa can take 6 to 12 months to complete. Also, it is highly advised that you connect with a competent lawyer that specializes in this particular arena.. Wish you great success as Peru is a great Country to Live in. Chuck Lehtnen
